Benita L. Thornhill,

Benita Thornhill is a licensed counselor specializing in mental wellness, helping couples reconnect, worried parents find hope, individuals find wellness and communites become stronger, . She maintains a private practice in Jacksonville, North Carolina. Benita is a graduate of Hampton University, located in Hampton, Virginia, with a Masters of Arts in Community and Agency Counseling in 2009. She holds a Bachelor's of Science degree in Human Service Counseling with a minor in Sociology from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, where she graduated with the honor of Magna Cum Laude.

Mrs. Thornhill has extensive and diverse experience in providing services to individuals, youth, families, and communities. Mrs. Thornhill has worked as a Certified Court Mediator in Virginia Beach, Hampton, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, and Norfolk Courts. She has over 10 years of experience providing crisis services to diverse populations within communities and delivering services to increase individual well-being and community solidarity. While in Virginia, Mrs. Thornhill also served on advisory boards for a non-profit community organization and a public elementary school.

She has over 8 years of experience providing professional counseling to children, adolescents, families, couples, individuals, and groups. Mrs. Thornhill has conducted countless psychosocial assessments and behavioral assessments. She has served as a Clinical Supervisor for a team of ten Intensive In-home counselors. While in private practice in Michigan, in addition to serving outpatient clients, she served as a state-wide contracted Counselor for the Department of Human Services, Department of Child Protective Services, where she also worked with domestic violence victims and adults with substance abuse and addiction issues.

Mrs. Thornhill is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPCA) and a Substance Abuse Counselor (LCAS-R), she currently serves on the City of Jacksonville, North Carolina Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee and the Parent Advisory Board for Brewster Middle School. Benita is a community oriented, interactive, solution-focused and forward thinker. Her approach is person-centered, supportive and gives practical feedback to help clients effectively address personal life challenges. She integrates complementary evidence-based methodologies and techniques to offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each client. With compassion and understanding, she works with each individual to help them build on their strengths and attain the personal goals!
